The Timbavati

The Timbavati, an area of 534 sq kms (53 000 hectare) is one of Africa’s most established private game reserves and borders the Kruger National Park. No fences separate it from the Kruger National Park allowing wildlife free and unhindered movement within an ecosystem of more than two million hectares. Wildlife is remarkably habituated to the presence of people and their vehicles and subsequently offers consistently superb wildlife viewing.

Dry sandy rivers snakes through mixed Acacia and Combretum woodland, which creates habitat for abundant and diverse wildlife. Game viewing is exceptional and offers guests the chance of viewing Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, White Rhino, Giraffe, Burchell’s Zebra and a host of other herbivores in their natural habitat. African Wilddogs are also regularly seen and Cheetah are occasional visitors. Birds are plentyful and eagles, vultures and other raptors are encountered daily amongst the plethora of Hornbills, Turacos, Barbets, Parrots and a whole lot more.

The Camp

Our camp of choice is Umlani Bushcamp, a friendly and charming yet rustic bushcamp that offers guests the opportunity to get close to nature. All accommodation options have en-suite facilities including open-air bush showers.  Comfortable beds, crisp white linen, soft towels, mosquito netting, insect repellent and standard bathroom amenities are all included.

A pool under mature Jackalberry trees offers guests the chance to relax and cool down while watching a variety of animals coming down to the river. Meals are served at a variety of venues ranging from the main mess area which overlooks an active waterhole to a reed boma. For the adventurous there is also the option to spend a night in a treehouse which overlooks an active waterhole.
