I have had a wonderful two weeks in Kenya made possible by a range of people starting with my travel agent and finishing with Albie my personal guide and professional photographer.  His presence and interventions made what could have been an emotionally draining experience for me bearable, then fun and, finally joyful.

Just read this list:

As a single lady travelling alone he instantly put me at ease

He was attentive, supportive and thoughtful

He politely and with charm dealt with officialdom

He had a wicked sense of humour

He never batted an eyelid when asked if he was my son (I was flattered, the lady could have asked if he was my grandson!)

Using his extensive knowledge, patience and ability to explain things simple and clearly he set me on the road to a new skill

His guiding skills were excellent

He was a consummate professional

His manners were impeccable despite his threat to the contrary (his real mother would be proud of him)

We had a lot of laughs, swapped jokes and photographs and I will be leaving Kenya having drawn a line under the past and a with positive outlook for the future.

Thank you Albie. – JS – UK

Thanks you for the trip. It was fantastic to do this with you as guide. I am looking since a few years for Wilddogs now I got it. It was really great to see and watch them, these really wild and rare animals and at last I got some of those pictures I want – Great! I really enjoyed this trip with you and am glad I have met you and having you as guide. Each time we found the dogs you put the car in the right position. We also had fun on the trip. I hope to see you soon again, at least Sept/October this year. MK – Germany

Loved the wilddog safari. Much enhanced by your enthusiasm and knowledge. Would love to return for the puppies outing. Hope to do another safari with you sometime. PS: Extra thanks for allowing me to photograph the Vulturine Guineefowl 🙂 P – United Kingdom

W & T – South Africa

Leopard viewing-

After a 15 year wait to see wilddogs this week has surpassed all expectations and any wild dreams I had before I came. As a complete camera nut, your patience and advice has been really appreceated.  But most of all a heartfelt thanks for a wonderfully guided trip. Your ability to to put us in ecactly the right place and your knowledge of these wonderful animals has made this a complete joyfull trip and one that sits firmly in my top 3. I really hope that in the future there will be another “Albie” trip to come. SL – United Kingdom

Blyde Canyon-

What can we say? Wilddog safari – we certainly had that – it was amazing much more than we could ever have hoped for. Your enthusiasm for these wonderful animals certainly came through. And together with your sense of humour, your warmth in making us feel so welcome – very much appreceated. We would cartainly hope to see you again, whether that be in Laikipia or elsewhere, we do hope so. K&D A – United Kingdom

Thanks Albie. Brilliant Dogs, Jokes no better. Until next year. JM – Scotland

Thank you for helping to make our trip so memorable. You have dealt with our endless questions (and general nonsense) with great patience and humour, sharing some of your vast knowledge along the way. I can only hope that when you look back on the last ten days guiding our family, you realize you’ve learnt just a little bit more about handling wild animals, particularly when in groups of 6 with their young in tow. Do look us up if you’re in London anytime – you’re going to need another healthy dose of sarcasm before too long. Thanks so much again. L – London

Thank you very much for being a very good guide. My favorite thing was the leopard we saw on the last night, Best Wishes. JT – (8)

We had so much fun with you. How do you spot all those animals? My favorite things were the lion cubs, because they are adorable, cheetahs and the leopard.  You are an awesome photographer even though the animals get away most of the time, befoe you manage to bring your camera J All my thanks, JT, – (10)

Albie It has been a great pleasure. I’d been thinking that the Leopard was the highlight until we saw that mouse. Twinkling through the headlamps, with a sound like tiny bells – quite the cutest safari experience ever. Bring the Family to visit Tokyo – Experience some proper concrete. Best wishes and many thanks, AT – Tokyo.

Genet at Sasaab-

Others in my family have written about your outstanding qualities as a guide, which have added hugely to the great pleasure we have all had from our holiday in Kenya, but I would like especially to compliment you on the serenity. Resilience and patience with which you have faced your barrage of questions, attempted witticisms, slightly salacious double meanings, insubordination and general misbehavior. You are very experienced but I do believe that we added considerably to your capacity to cope with family mayhem, and that another time you will be able to manage to manage with less support from my long suffering daughter. Congratulations and THANK YOU VERY MUCH INDEED. VT – London
Leopard in front of car-

This will wind up reading like a testimonial, although that is not my (sole) intention. Sfter two decades of traversing the South and East African bush, I can safely say that our experiences with you was exceptional, you belong with the best. Your unfailing good humor, indefatigable energy, great patience and remarkable skill behind the lens made you a terrific resource for us to have by our side. I hereby swear never to knowingly centre any photograph with front light! The joys of backlighting, giving animals space in the frame and most of all the joys of flash photography are all lifelong skills you’ve given me. I am sure our paths will cross again. May your Leopards all be in sausage trees with pink light behind, AJ – UK

Lions and car (1 of 1)

For the first time in a myriad of Safaris, I filmed buffaloes lying on my tummy, used flash in bright sunshine and put my subject in a corner. Albie, we met you as our guide but we are parting as friends. Love to have you and your family in the Indian Jungles someday. GJ – UK
